I grew up at the edge of the woods in a small town outside Bangor. We fished at camp every weekend. My father and brother hunted but hunting camp was “no place for girls.” I didn’t step foot in our family camp during hunting season until I was in my early 40’s and only then to pick Dad up to go out to breakfast on a Sunday morning.
Eventually, I bugged my husband to take me hunting so much that he gave in and off we went. It was an uneventful day on the coast and I didn’t go again for five years. This is my fourth year hunting for partridge, bear and deer. I’m pretty good hunting partridge. I still haven’t tagged a bear or deer. Finding a shooter buck in northern Washington County is a challenge.
I spend a lot of time in my kayak, hike, wild harvest foods, spend a lot of time in my kayak, and almost always have my camera with me. I’m a new Hooked On Fishing – Not on Drugs instructor and serve on the board of Friends of Becoming an Outdoors Woman in Maine. My personal blog is found at http://robinfollette.com.
